The Kenya international, who had been sidelined with a toe injury since mid-February, last featuring in the 2-2 draw against Grimsby Town, slotted back into the left side at wing-back and delivered a composed performance as the Saddlers halted the hosts’ five-game winning streak.

Walsall’s resurgence was driven by Priestley Farquharson, whose brace in either half ultimately proved decisive.

The defender opened the scoring on the half-hour mark after Aaron Pressley intelligently brought down Evan Weir’s free-kick into his path, allowing him to finish with conviction and give the visitors a deserved lead.

The Saddlers continued to apply pressure before the interval, with Aden Flint rising highest to meet Charlie Lakin’s corner, only to direct his header narrowly wide.

At the opposite end, goalkeeper Sam Hornby was called into action and produced an excellent point-blank save to deny Will Boyle, preserving Walsall’s advantage.

However, Shrewsbury responded in first-half stoppage time when Iwan Morgan curled in a well-struck free-kick, leaving Hornby with no chance and restoring parity heading into the break.

The contest remained finely balanced after the restart, with Jamie Jellis blasting over from inside the area as Walsall searched for a second goal.

Their persistence paid off when Farquharson struck again in near-identical fashion to his opener, nodding home after Flint redirected another Weir set-piece into his path to claim his fifth goal of the season.

Hornby remained alert in the closing stages, producing another vital save to deny Morgan a second equaliser, while Boyle headed wide as the hosts pressed forward in search of a late leveller.

Shrewsbury’s task became even more difficult when Josh Ruffels was dismissed for a high challenge on Jellis, leaving the home side to finish the match with ten men.

From an individual performance, the returning Harambee Stars defender delivered a balanced display that underlined his importance to the side.

He registered two key passes and one accurate cross while maintaining a 71 per cent passing accuracy, completing 10 of his 14 attempts.

Notably, six of his eight passes in the opposition box found their intended targets, reflecting his attacking intent from the flank, although one attempted long ball did not come off.

Defensively, he contributed nine key actions, including seven clearances and three recoveries, compensating for two unsuccessful tackle attempts with strong positional awareness.

He won five of his nine ground duels and one aerial contest from two attempts, though he was dribbled past once and conceded a foul during an otherwise disciplined outing.

The result not only breathes life into Walsall’s push for a play-off berth but also marks a timely boost for the Kenyan defender as he works his way back to full sharpness ahead of upcoming international assignments.
