Ten Hag claims he was brought in to deal with 'bad culture'

Reading Time: 3min | Sat. 16.09.23. | 10:23

Appparently, he is doing what he was paid to do when he came to Manchester

With two wins in four matches, Manchester United are in a result crisis. But those who watched those two wins are not convinced either since the Red Devils were lucky on both occasions and massively benefited from VAR mistakes. So, ahead of the home game against Brighton, who lost only once and scored 11 goals in their three wins, the focus should be on the game improvement, and questions about the poor results and managerial responsibility should be asked. But it’s not like that in Manchester, since they have a lot of other problems, outside unconvincing results.

Mason Greenwood was the main problem months ago when he was accused of domestic violence. He was found not guilty, but the damage was already done to Manchester. The next one Antony. It was the same situation, but this time, the Red Devils reacted on time and removed him from the first team until further notice. And now Jadon Sancho. The situation with the winger escalated when Ten Hag revealed he was not good in training and thus not available for the Arsenal game, after which the player reacted on his social network and de facto accused his coach of lying. He then refused to apologize to the Dutchman and was forced to train on his own. And let's not forget the situation with Cristiano Ronaldo, who was also on the wrong end of an argument with the Dutchman. And now Ten Hag had to talk about the player in his pre-game press conference. His explanation of the whole situation was that this sort of ‘bad culture’ existed before he came, and his task was to change that.

Strict lines is the point. It’s what the club asked me because there was no-good culture before last season, so to set some good standards, that is what I did. That is my job, to control the standards” said the Dutchman.

Speaking of Sancho (whom he failed to mention by name during the whole conference), Ten Hag hinted that this was not the first time he did something like that.

It has never been when someone makes one mistake. It is a whole process before you come to a certain outcome about strict lines. You have to be strong. But this is not about me, or to be strict. No, this is in favour of the team” he explained.

Manchester's coach was then asked if Sancho would ever be selected for the first team again.

I don’t know. What is important is I have to prepare my team, so that’s what I do. I put all my effort into the players who are available. He is not available, so in this moment he is not important. So I block it” said Ten Hag. After being accused of bringing this ‘crisis’ upon himself for no reason, as he was the one who spoke about Sancho’s absence, the Dutchman simply said that he spoke honestly when asked why the winger was not on the team.
