The Belgian international was sold by the Gunners and will finalize his deal after the World Cup
The Turkish transfer market is making headlines once again, something fans have grown accustomed to in recent years. This time, Besiktaş are at the center of attention. According to The Athletic, the Istanbul giants have reached an agreement with Arsenal over the transfer of Belgian international and newly crowned Premier League champion Leandro Trossard. The deal is worth a total of 20 million euros. Besiktas will pay 18 million upfront, with a further two million euros in easily achievable performance-related bonuses. The only remaining step is to finalize the player's personal terms. According to sources close to the negotiations, Trossard is set to sign the most lucrative contract of his career in Istanbul, earning up to nine million euros per season including bonuses, which would make him one of the eight highest-paid players in the Turkish Süper Lig.

New Besiktas head coach Vincenzo Italiano made it clear that signing an experienced, top-class left winger was one of his priorities. Trossard emerged as the ideal target after negotiations with Sassuolo for Armand Lauriente stalled because of the Italian club's financial demands. Arsenal agreed to the sale largely because of Trossard's contract situation. The 32-year-old Belgian has just one year remaining on his current deal. Although he signed an improved contract last August that significantly increased his salary, the agreement still expires in June 2027. Rather than risk losing him for nothing next year, Arsenal decided this was the right time to cash in.
Trossard leaves Mikel Arteta's side with his head held high, having played a key role in Arsenal's historic Premier League triumph—the club's first league title since 2004. During the championship-winning campaign, he made 50 appearances in all competitions, scoring eight goals and providing 11 assists. Arsenal supporters will always remember May 10, when Trossard scored a priceless winning goal in the 83rd minute away to West Ham United, preserving the Gunners' five-point lead over Manchester City and helping pave the way to the Premier League title.
Trossard joined Arsenal from Brighton & Hove Albion in January 2023 for around 30 million euros. During his time in North London, he made 174 appearances, scoring 36 goals and registering 34 assists, establishing himself as one of the most reliable and versatile players in Arteta's squad. Although the two clubs have reached an agreement, Besiktas supporters will have to wait a little longer before seeing Trossard officially unveiled. The Belgian is currently representing his country at the FIFA World Cup, where he has been one of Rudi Garcia's standout performers. Belgium will face the United States in the Round of 16 on Monday, meaning the official announcement of Trossard's transfer will be postponed until the Red Devils' World Cup campaign comes to an end.
