KCB brush aside Daystar Falcons to clinch inaugural Met 7s title

KCB Rugby marked their debut at the Met 7s in style after defeating Daystar Falcons 26-12 to lift the 2026 title at the KCB Sports Club in Ruaraka on Saturday, 4 July.

The Bankers delivered an impressive performance throughout the one-day tournament, capping it off with a composed display in the final to deny the fast-rising Falcons and lay down an early marker ahead of their National Sevens Circuit title defense.
KCB struck first in the final, crossing over for the opening try before adding the conversion to take an early lead.
Daystar responded with sustained pressure deep inside KCB territory, pinning the Bankers in their own half for several minutes.
Their persistence eventually paid off when Clinton Amukwachi powered over for the Falcons' first try after they recovered possession, with the successful conversion bringing them back into the contest.
The Bankers returned from the break with renewed intensity. Although Elvis Olukusi's attacking run was briefly halted after he picked up a knock, play resumed with KCB immediately shifting gears.
Richel Wangila crossed over for a crucial try soon after the restart, with Emmanuel Opondo adding the conversion to stretch KCB's advantage.
Moments later, the powerful Bob Muhati bulldozed his way over for another converted try, opening up a commanding lead.
Daystar refused to surrender and breached the Bankers' defense for another try, although the conversion sailed wide, leaving KCB ahead 21-12.
The Bankers sealed victory in the closing stages when James Kimana finished off a well-executed lineout move with the final try of the match, sparking celebrations among the home supporters.
KCB's triumph was built on a flawless run throughout the tournament.
The Bankers opened with a dominant 36-7 victory over Ngong Warriors before brushing aside NYS Spades 27-5. They completed the preliminary round with a convincing 20-0 win over Mean Machine to book a place in the semi-finals.
They then produced one of the performances of the tournament by hammering Mwamba RFC 34-0 to secure their place in the final.
Speaking after the victory, KCB Rugby head coach Andrew Amonde praised his players for their discipline and commitment throughout the tournament, saying the title was a timely confidence boost as they shift focus to defending their National Sevens Circuit crown.
