Ingwe will begin the new year with a clash against Tusker on Saturday, 10 January, in what will be a major test of their title credentials.

AFC Leopards head coach Fred Ambani is backing his side to end their 28-year wait for the FKF Premier League title by clinching the 2025 26 crown.

Ingwe last won the league in 1998, with the entire Leopards fraternity enduring years of frustration since then and now firmly determined to lift this season’s title.

Their dream became even clearer after securing a 1-0 victory over Bidco United in their league match on Tuesday, 23 December, a win that propelled them to the top of the league table with 24 points.

Speaking to the press after the match, an elated Ambani made the club’s intentions clear. “We are going for the title. It is the belief of everyone in the team. It has been a long time since Leopards last won the league and I do not see any reason why we should not aim for it. We just need to keep believing, stay united as a team and take one game at a time,” said Ambani.

Ambani’s confidence is bolstered by the fact that it is the first time Ingwe have topped the league after 15 rounds of matches in over a decade, a testament to the team’s progress this season.

“It has been quite a long time since AFC Leopards were at the top of the league, so I want to congratulate the players and the technical bench, as well as the club officials for the support,” he added.

The former Zoo FC tactician also took time to appreciate the Leopards hierarchy for backing his technical bench at a time when sections of the club’s supporters were calling for his dismissal following inconsistent results.

“The management had faith in me when things did not go well and I really thank them for choosing to believe in the process. Now we are reaping the benefits,” he remarked.
