Wrexham’s play-off hopes remain alive heading into their final league match at the STōK Cae Ras against fellow promotion contenders Middlesbrough
Harambee Stars defender Zak Vyner is set to miss Wrexham’s final English Football League (EFL) Championship match of the season and could also be ruled out of the possible promotion play-offs due to a persistent groin injury.

Vyner has been sidelined since early April, missing the club’s last six matches, and with only one fixture left in the regular campaign, there are growing concerns he may not feature again this season.
His absence is a significant blow for promotion-chasing Wrexham AFC, after becoming an influential figure in recent weeks.
Manager Phil Parkinson admitted the defender’s recovery has not gone as planned, casting further doubt over his availability.
“Zak is a bit behind,” Parkinson told the club’s media, adding that there is currently no clear timeline for his return.
The coach expressed disappointment at the timing of the injury, noting that the former Bristol City man had been in excellent form.
Though naturally a defender, Vyner had stepped into midfield and impressed during a period when the squad was stretched.
“Zak has had a problem with his groin. He injured it in a practice game after we played Southampton, which was a shame because he’d been doing really well,” Parkinson said.
“We had no Matty James, no Ben, and no George Dobson for a period, and Zak came in and did brilliantly for us.”
There was, however, a slight boost for Wrexham, with Ben Sheaf nearing a return from a medial knee ligament injury sustained in the 5-3 win over Ipswich Town in February.
Sheaf travelled with the squad for the recent clash against Coventry City but was not risked in the 3-1 defeat.
“Ben had a good week and travelled with us, but we felt it was a bit too soon. We’ll monitor him in training and see how he progresses,” Parkinson added.
Wrexham’s play-off hopes remain alive heading into their final league match at the STōK Cae Ras against fellow promotion contenders Middlesbrough.
The Red Dragons sit sixth on 70 points, level with seventh-placed Hull City, leaving no margin for error.
Despite the setback against Coventry, Parkinson remains confident his side can deliver when it matters most.
“The lads won’t be knocked by this defeat. They’ve shown great effort and quality,” he said. “It’s all to play for on Saturday. After 45 games, we now have the chance to get over the line, and we’ll be ready as a group.”
