The Mailmen are among the teams that are currently embroiled in a fight to retain their league status, with the club currently sitting 13th on the log with 36 points, four points above Ulinzi Stars, who are in the red zone but with a game in hand.

Posta received a major boost to their survival quest following a 3-0 win over relegation-bound Sofapaka in an FKF Premier League match played at the Kasarani Annex on Monday, 11 May.

Speaking to the press after the match, the former Gor Mahia head coach disclosed what it will take to ensure Posta’s survival in the league.

“The win has given us some breathing space ahead of the next three games, which are all tough. We may just need one win now to guarantee our safety,” said Zico.

The former Harambee Stars tactician went ahead to share the challenge of being handed the team's reins at this crucial stage of the season.

“It is difficult because, as a coach, you need time to execute your plan. Right now, it is a crash program which we are trying very hard to adapt to.

The good thing is that the team was not badly off, and I am working together with the remaining technical bench staff to ensure we survive,” he added.

Zico also explained how he executed his first win since making a return to Posta on Tuesday, 14 April.

“Congratulations to the boys. We had a plan that we executed really well. Our plan was to score the first goal, then manage the game, which would make them come at us and give us a chance to exploit the space left behind and score further goals.

It is not easy playing a team that has nothing to lose. It is difficult, but my boys handled that very well,” he remarked.
