The dockers are readying for Road to BAL matches in Dar es Salaam
Kenyan representatives to this year's Road to BAL, KPA are using the local league as part of their preparations and on the weekend they showed their might; easily dispatching Kenyatta University K.U Pirates.
In what was the side's second match of the season, Kenya Ports Authority picked an easy 68-38 victory at Makande Welfare Hall in Mombasa on Saturday.
Martin Kitong'o led the scoring with 14 points Job Byron and Eugene Adera added 12 and 11 respectively in the win.
Coach Sammy Kiki who has led the side in the opening two wins admitted to wishing the side would have played more matches locally before embarking on their Basketball Africa League (BAL) journey.
"Our third match of the season was postponed so we have only played two matches. The players are responding well to training. We will, however, be bolstering the squad ahead of the BAL qualifiers later this month," Kiki offered.
On his part, Pirates head coach Caleb Osewe expressed optimism in his team's ability to do better in upcoming matches, arguing that they had shown improvement against the dockers compared to their opening match against Strathmore Blades.
"Their work rate has tremendously gone up compared to the first game and I expect them to get better when they settle into a system and a rhythm," Osewe offered.
The women's team, K.U Oryx, were no match for KPA ladies as they went down, embarrassingly 88-08.
In Nairobi, Platinum Eldonets dimmed United States International University (USIU) Tigers 58-48. Tyson Ongwae led the onslaught with a massive input of 26 points that included seven three-pointers as Renny Moibi added 14.
It was back-to-back victories for the visiting Eldonets as they saw off new entrants ABSA 61-55 to get 100% results in their first away trip.
In the women's league, Th3 Swish caused an upset as they defeated Africa Nazarene University (ANU) Panther 45-41, hosting the match on their turf in Nakuru.
Former champions Equity Hawks picked an easy 76-26 win over Eldonets ladies to continue their good run in the national league
