Coach Carey will hope to guide the bankers to victory in Game Three slated for Friday 28 June at Nyayo Gymnasium
Nairobi City Thunder narrowly edged out the Equity Dumas 69-66 on Sunday night to continue their unbeaten run in the Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) men’s league.
Playing the bankers in an edge-of-the-seat encounter in the ongoing best-of-five playoff semis, the Brad Ibs-led Thunder had to dig deep to snatch Game Two from the Carey Odhiambo-coached Dumas, leading the series 2-0.
In Game Two, Dumas had a good start but lost their momentum midway through the match, allowing Thunder to come back and force a see-saw that saw the side pick a three-point victory, having won Game One by a basket.
Albert Odero was Thunder’s main man on the scoreboard, expertly dropping 21 points as Fidel Okoth added 16 in the victory. Meanwhile, Eugene Adera was Dumas’ top contributor with some jaw-dropping performances for 18 points as skipper Victor Bosire added 13. Marol Achei, meanwhile, managed a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
“It has never been easy against Equity so we are happy for the two wins,” coach Brad told Mozzart Sport. “It makes a big difference being 1-1 or 2-0 in a series of five games. We wanted this win and are grateful to get it,” an elated Brad who lauded the fanbase for showing up in their numbers to support the teams, said.
Just one win away from storming the final where they play the winner of the other semi featuring Strathmore Blades and holders Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), coach Brad steered clear of the ‘sweep’ conversation. “I won’t comment on that. We will just be ready for Friday. A sweep would be great but as Dumas have shown a very competitive heart, we cannot take them lightly.”
The tactician says that despite the two wins, they still have more work to do to reduce their turnovers and strive to keep any leads they take.
