The 19-year-old Mercedes driver secured his fifth consecutive victory in the sixth round of the Formula 1 championship

Andrea Kimi Antonelli has secured his fifth consecutive victory during the sixth round of this year's Formula 1 World Championship.

The young Italian drove flawlessly from start to finish on the streets of Monte Carlo, delivering yet another impressive performance in what is only his second season in Formula 1. With this triumph, he has further solidified his lead in the general standings, accumulating 156 points.

On the other hand, Ferrari driver Lewis Hamilton advanced to second place in the championship by finishing runner-up in Monaco. He now has 90 points—two more than the second Mercedes driver, George Russell, who failed to score points following numerous mistakes and penalties.

The final step of the podium went to Red Bull’s Isack Hadjar, who is, however, under investigation by the stewards, leaving his points finish in jeopardy.

Fourth place went to the somewhat under-the-radar McLaren driver Oscar Piastri. He was the sole representative of the British team to finish the race in the Principality, after Lando Norris retired in the second half of the race due to a technical issue.

Fifth and sixth places were claimed by the Racing Bulls duo, Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad. Behind them, Pierre Gasly (Alpine) finished seventh after receiving a ten-second time penalty. The top ten was rounded out by Williams' Alex Albon and Esteban Ocon in the Haas, while the final point-scoring position went to Sergio Perez, marking the first-ever point for the Cadillac team. However, the Mexican driver is also under investigation, meaning tenth place could still drop to Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso, who finished 11th.

Chaos erupted right at the start of the race. It initially looked as though Max Verstappen, starting from second on the grid, might challenge Antonelli's lead. Instead, the Dutchman bogged down and stood completely still as the lights went out. The entire grid swamped past him, and he barely managed to get his Red Bull moving again. By the end of the opening lap, he retreated to the garage and retired after a brief consultation with his team.

This left Antonelli leading the pack in the opening laps ahead of the Ferrari duo, Hamilton and Charles Leclerc. The drivers of the Italian team kept pace with the leader during the first half of the race, while the pit wall weighed up strategies to threaten the Mercedes driver.

Meanwhile, a fierce battle for position just behind the top three unfolded between Hadjar and Russell for most of the race. The Red Bull driver was managing a car issue, which temporarily held up the Briton. Russell managed to leapfrog Hadjar after the pit stops, but was later hit with a five-second penalty for speeding in the pit lane.

As Antonelli looked to be comfortably cruising to the finish, the safety car was deployed on lap 60. Aston Martin's Lance Stroll hit the barriers at Turn 19, neutralizing the field.

The race was scheduled to restart on lap 65, but in the exact same corner, Leclerc made an identical mistake, shattering the home crowd's dreams of a podium finish.

Because race control noticed an issue with the track's tarmac at the spot where both drivers crashed, they made the call to throw the red flag until the track surface could be repaired. Following a lengthy delay, and with fewer than ten laps remaining, tensions were at an all-time high.

The drivers eventually filed back out behind the safety car to warm up their tires before lining up for a standing restart for a thrilling nine-lap "Sprint" to the flag. Antonelli comfortably held his lead over Hamilton all the way to the finish line on lap 78, while the positions behind them remained unchanged.

Alongside Leclerc, Verstappen, Norris, and Stroll, technical issues forced Valtteri Bottas (Cadillac), Oliver Bearman (Haas), and Carlos Sainz (Williams) into premature retirements.
