
Golf: Maara set to captain Team Kenya to Africa Championships

The team will be led by KGU chairman Njani Ndiritu.
Kenya Golf Union (KGU) has entrusted the quarter of Dennis Maara, John Lejirma, Adel Balala and Michael Karanga with flying the Kenyan flag at this year's All Africa Golf Championship.
Limuru Country Club's Maara is set to captain the quartet to the championship scehduled to be held on 25 to 31 September 2022 in Egypt.

The four will look to replicate the results from their recent Region Five and Victoria Cup exploits where they won the former and were part of Team Kenya that beat Uganda to the title in the latter.
Lejirma of Railway Golf Club, Balala of Nyali Golf and Country Club and Karanga of Kiambu Golf Club as well as the captain have all expressed delight in representing the country once again while promising to deliver.
"We are looking forward to taking the next assignment at AAGTC in Egypt. Playing against the top amateurs on the continent will be a true test of our ability as a team. We have been working hard individually and we will be in training with our coach following the break after our recent success," offered Maara.
The team, which will be led by KGU chairman Njani Ndiritu, has been in training under national junior coach John van Liefland ahead of the championship which has attracted a total of 15 countries.
Some of the other countries expected to feature include South Africa, Uganda , Tanzania, Zambia, Morocco, Ghana, Tunisia, Egypt, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Malawi and the Seychelles among others.
"The team has been on a high following the previous wins in the Region IV and Victoria Cup and we at the Union are certain that they will bring yet another trophy home," said Ndiritu.
