Nakuru-based Annabel Makanga, a former under-11 Africa Schools champion, is among the top players expected to take part in the event
The first Chess Kenya junior event will be held on Saturday at Radiance Academy in Nakuru, with a number of top juniors expected to participate.
The one-day event received a major boost on Monday after Trace My Car (TMC) donated Kshs.100,000 to help with the logistics of the tournament.

According to Nakuru Academy patron Dickson Gitari, the cash donation will go along way to make the event successful.
“We are very grateful for the support from our partners. The money will be used to buy trophies and other prizes for the winners,” he said.
Gitari said he expects more than 600 players to take part in the event, which is in its second year.
“There has been a lot of interest from players in different parts of the country, and we expect the very best to take part. All arrangements are complete to have a smooth event,” he said.
Nakuru-based Annabel Makanga, a former under-11 Africa Schools champion, is among the top players expected to take part in the event.
It will be her first event in almost three months, and she will be hoping to bounce back strongly.
Another top Nakuru player expected to take part in the event is Joe Wayne, whose recent outing was the Africa Youth Chess Championships in Zimbabwe.
Africa under-8 bronze medalist Jayne Awuor is also expected to take part.
Awuor won a medal in her first time of asking at last year’s Africa Youth Chess Championships held in Harare, Zimbabwe.
Elsewhere, after earning promotion to the Premier League, PMadol Chess Club is looking for players to join the club.
The team, which was formed just two years ago, has made huge progress by qualifying for the top league and now wants to ensure it retains its top spot.
According to James Punchol, who is a Director at the club, they are looking for two players- a girl and a boy.
“Both players must not be more than 26 years. The girls should be rated at least 1650 and the boys 1900. We are determined to do even better in the top league and are therefore looking for players who will help achieve our dreams,” he said.
