The winners will qualify for the FIVB African Nation’s Volleyball championship

Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) has entered its men’s and women’s national teams for the Confederation of African Volleyball Confederation (CAVB) Africa Nations Cup championship set for September 5- 20 in Kigali, Rwanda but their participation is up in the air with the federation chasing sponsorship for the same.

Provisional squads of 18 players for both sides are set to be named on Saturday 14 August 2021. The women’s team will include the same players that were in the provisional squad for their Olympics assignment.

With the men’s team having been out of competition since June 2019 when they took part in the Africa Zone Five championship that also served as a qualifier to the Africa Games, the federation’s first vice-chairperson Charles Nyaberi says a selection committee from the coaches’ commission is selecting the provisional squad.

“We have requested for the government’s support in fielding the teams and we are hopeful the funding will be provided. We are also looking for sponsorship elsewhere, not just relying on the government. If we get the funds to field the teams the scheduled KVF playoffs will be postponed to a later date as the teams will need the time to prepare for the continental championship,” confirmed Nyaberi.

So far, CAVB has confirmed the registration of 20 men’s teams for the championship in Kigali. Teams are set to arrive on 5 September with the Technical Meeting scheduled for 7 on September the same day the competition will throw off.

The women’s championship has so far attracted 16 teams. Teams are set to arrive on 10 September with the technical meeting set for a day later. The competition runs from 12 to 19 September.
