The team had set up a residential training camp at the Sports View Hotel, holding intense sessions at the Kasarani Indoor Arena, polishing everything before departure.
Munala expressed satisfaction with the team’s progress, noting that the focus in camp has been on strengthening tactical cohesion while ensuring the players are in peak physical and mental condition.
“We have had a very good training camp, and the players are responding well to the program. The focus is on improving our systems and ensuring that we are fully prepared physically and mentally for the challenge ahead,” the tactician offered.
KCB Queens head into the championship with a point to prove after finishing fifth in last year’s edition, a result that has fueled their determination to reclaim the title they previously won in 2006 and 2022.
Despite anticipating a highly competitive tournament, Munala remains optimistic about his side’s chances of bringing the title home.
“We know the competition will be tough because the best clubs on the continent will be there. But we believe in the quality within our squad, and we are confident that we can compete strongly,” he said.
The squad has been boosted by the return of experienced attacker Esther Mutinda, while the addition of libero Josphine Kataa is expected to reinforce the team’s defensive stability.
Middle blocker Mildred Cherop has also rejoined the team after a one-year stint in the United Arab Emirates, adding depth and experience to the lineup.
However, the team will be without captain Edith Wisa, who is unavailable for the tournament due to personal reasons.
In her absence, Mercy Moim will lead the side, with the skipper emphasizing unity and belief as key ingredients in their campaign.
“We have been preparing well, and the team spirit in camp is very high. Our goal is to go there, compete strongly, and represent the club and the country with pride,” Moim said.
Moim added that the players are motivated by KCB’s rich pedigree in African volleyball and are eager to restore the club’s standing among the continent’s elite.
“KCB has a strong legacy in African volleyball, and we want to build on that. Every player in this team understands the responsibility, and we are ready for the challenge,” she noted.
The travelling squad will be named on Friday, 10 April.
