Ngata FC ended their year on a high after emerging victorious in the inaugural Mosop Ward Boxing Day tournament final played at the Ngata Primary School in Nakuru county on Tuesday, December 26.

The tournament was graced by Nakuru County Governor Susan Kihika, Farouk Kibet, and Zack Njeru among others. The leaders promised to build a dining hall, laboratory, and three Junior Secondary School (JSS) classes for the school. They also promised a community bus for Ngata ward, Rongai constituency.

The side defeated Juhudi FC 4-2 in the closely contested match that was decided on post-match penalties.

The tournament that was aimed at identifying and nurturing talents in the region attracted thousands of fans who went home smiling with boxing day goodies.

It was also keen on shielding the youths from bad societal norms like drug abuse, petty robberies, and early pregnancies among others during this festive break.

The match ended 1-1 at regular time after Kevin Rotich scored for Juhudi FC and Rodgers Kipkemoi starred for Ngata FC.

Franklin Muriithi and Collins Kiprono scored penalties for Juhudi FC while Rodgers Kipkemoi, Lawrence Kilel, Peter Keita, and Fanuel Ekwom managed penalties for the winners.

Speaking after the tournament, Ngata FC captain Isaac Kosgei was over the moon, thanking God for the impressive win.

"The game was very competitive. We did our best and we thank God that we won," Kosgei told Mozzart Sport.

The winners went home Ksh500,000 richer.

Juhudi FC on the other hand pointed out that they did their best, but things did not work according to the plan.

The team's Captain Emmanuel Rono called on potential sponsors to take advantage of their talents and help them compete at higher levels. He noted that they were very talented but lacked sponsors to help them honor their matches.

The team previously competed at the Nakuru County League but dropped out owing financial challenges.

"At this point, the team is running well. If we get finances, we aim at competing in higher levels. If we get finances, we are hopeful that we will get sponsors to help us keep our dream alive," Rono urged.

The first runners-up went home smiling with Ksh300,000. The organizers promised a bigger and better 2024 edition.
