She now redirects her focus to the W15 tournament in San Diego from May 27 to June 2

Angella Okutoyi’s run in the W35 Bethany Beach Women’s Singles tournament in Delaware came to an end Friday after she lost in her quarterfinal tie to Kajsa Rinaldo Persson.

The 20-year-old, seeking to make a deep run in the tournament for a chance at qualifying for this year’s Olympic Games, was no match for the 26-year-old Swede, losing in straight sets of 6-2, 6-1.

The defeat, which is her second consecutive quarter final loss this month, further derails her quest to break into the world’s top 400 players in the Women’s Tennis Association standings, the position she needs to be at inorder to make the cut for the Summer Games.

Two weeks ago, she failed in her quest to win in Florida, coming after a qualifying round loss to American Sophie Chang in April's Charlottesville tournament.

The 2023 Kenya Open Champion is currently a career high 522nd position, and needs 56 more points over her next events to at least match America’s Raveena Kingsley, who is placed number 400 with 157 ranking points.

Coupled with a doubles 6-3, 4-6, (10-4) loss to the American duo of Ashton Bowers and Mia Yamakita, Okutoyi’s next time on the court from Bethany Beach will be in San Diego, where she is expected to play in the W15 tournament from May 27 to June 2.

The deadline to qualify is June 10.
