The 2023/24 Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) Championship playoff fixtures have been unveiled as the teams fight tooth and nail to gain promotion to the top-tier league.

The two matches will be played on Saturday, March 16 in Athi River and Impala Club. All matches will kick off at 3:00 pm.

Playoff 1: Daystar Falcons vs JKUAT Cougars

Third-placed Daystar Falcons will be hoping to go past Jomo Kenyatta University of Science and Technology (JKUAT) Cougars when they lock horns in the first playoff slated for the Daystar University Grounds in Athi River.

The winner of this varsity affair will tackle Diani-based South Coast Pirates in the first semifinal.

Falcons ended the regular season at position three with 39 points after recording eight wins and two losses.

JKUAT finished the regular season at position six, 17 points behind their weekend’s opponents, and they will be looking to make their trip count. They bagged four wins and suffered six losses in the season.

Playoff 2: Impala RFC vs Western Bulls

Former Kenya Cup Side Impala RFC will welcome Western Bulls at their Impala Grounds keen to secure a much-needed win. The outcome of this match will determine who tackles Masinde Muliro University of Technology (MMUST) Rugby in the second semifinal.

The Gazelles have been in sleek form this season, winning six of their 10 matches played. They dished a walkover to the University of Eldoret (UoE) Trojans in the season finale match and will be hoping to bounce back with a win. The Ngong Road-based club ended their season at an impressive position four with 28 points.

They will welcome their former Kenya Cup compatriots Bulls who will be keen to bring Western Kenya energy to the city. The Kakamega-based side has 22 points, six points shy of their weekend’s opponents. They played 10 matches this season, winning five and losing a similar number.

They have already started fundraising to meet their traveling expenses and will be hoping to bring their A-game on board.

Former Kenya Cup side MMUST Rugby secured a home final after finishing at the top of the log with 44 points.

Similarly, South Coast Pirates also earned a home semi-final spot following a 35-22 victory over United States International University (USIU) Martials, grabbing the second place.
