Promoted Shamas and Kabarak University set for Saturday nationwide finale
The Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) Nationwide final pitting Shamas Foundation and Kabarak University has been confirmed for Saturday 20 November 2021 at the RFUEA Grounds in Nairobi.
Over the weekend, both Shamas and varsity side Kabarak sealed their place in the final after edging their opponents in semifinal matches played in Nairobi and Kitale.
At the RFUEA, Shamas managed to narrowly edge Daystars Falcons 17-13 to advance to the final and consequently book their ticket to the second tier. In the closely fought and thrilling contest, Shamas had to show their grit as they had to come from behind to ensure their place in the Kenya Rugby Union Championship next season.
Similarly, Kabarak University also had to dig deep in defeating Kitale 22-20 at the St. Anthony’s School in Kitale in the other semifinal pairing.
Prior to the semis, Shamas had earlier disposed off Maseno University 22-0 while Kabarak had defeated Technical University of Mombasa 38-29 in their respective quarterfinal matches.
By virtue of being the nationwide finalists, Shamas and Kabarak have already confirmed their place in next season’s KRU Championship, the rugby second tier, where they are set to replace Kisii RFC and Mombasa RFC. The two spots up for grabs in the championship were preserved for the two teams that reach the nationwide finals.
Having already booked their place, the two teams will be seeking to crown off their promotion achieving season by going for the title on Saturday ahead of the 2021/2022 championship season that is expected to commence on Saturday 27 Novemeber.
