Tanga, who suffered a serious injury on Sunday, 18 September 2025, during the Dala 7s quarterfinal against Nakuru RFC, had been sidelined due to issues affecting his balance and vision.

His return comes after an extended recovery period away from competitive rugby. He has, however, been ongoing rehabilitation and training with the Kenya Sevens.

The Shujaa squad made a promising start to the season in Nairobi, finishing third in the opening leg of the HSBC SVNS 2 at Nyayo National Stadium from Saturday 14 to Sunday 15 February.

The team recorded four wins from five matches, signaling strong form early in the series.

Kenya began the tournament with a convincing 29-12 victory over Canada, followed by a dominant 33-0 win against Belgium. Saturday’s action ended with a dramatic 15-10 win over Germany, secured in extra time after a closely contested battle.

Sunday saw Kenya continue their momentum with a 17-7 victory over Uruguay, but their run ended with a 21-5 defeat to the United States in the final match of the Nairobi leg.

The Division 2 circuit now heads to Montevideo, Uruguay, on 21-22 March, before concluding in São Paulo, Brazil, on 28-29 March.

Under the revamped format, six teams per gender compete across three events, with the top four advancing to the SVNS World Championship stage.

There, they will face the leading eight sides from Division One in Hong Kong, Valladolid, and Bordeaux, with promotion to the top tier for the 2027 season on the line.

Shujaa squad for the upcoming legs: George Ooro, Samuel Asati, Vincent Onyala, John Okoth, Dennis Abukuse, Kevin Wekesa, Patrick Odongo, Festus Shiasi, Nygel Amaitsa, Floyd Wabwire, Chrissant Ojwang, David Nyangige, Brian Tanga, Gabriel Ayimba.
