Since its inception in 1930, the tournament has served as a battleground for regional supremacy, previously featuring Ugandan and Tanzanian sides.

Uganda’s Kampala RFC famously dominated between 1956 and 1970, while later years saw sides like Heathens RFC, KCB Kobs, and Pirates RFC keep the regional rivalry alive.

This weekend, that rivalry returns to center stage, with Kenyan sides travelling to Kampala, while others host fixtures locally, all with a semifinal spot on the line.

KCB Rugby vs Pirates RFC – Kampala

KCB Rugby have named a youthful yet balanced squad for their clash against defending champions Pirates.

The front row sees Nick Okullo, Wilfred Waswa and Wilhite Mususi start, with John Aswani partnering Andycole Omollo in the second row. Elvis Olukusi, Bramwel Kilwake and Sheldon Kahi complete the back row.

Jenkins Kipruto and Brian Wahinya will dictate play at halfback, while captain Bob Muhati partners Richel Wangila in midfield. Austine Sikutwa and Mike Wekesa provide width, with Levy Amunga at fullback.

KCB forwards coach Brian Nyikuli is confident of a strong showing.

“We expect to win. The mood has been great in the camp for the past one month. The boys are looking forward to it, and having a tour away rejuvenates them and renews their enthusiasm. So, I expect it will be fireworks when we hit the ground,” he said.

“This Enterprise Cup fixture is really beneficial because we are playing Pirates, and they are the team that won last year… so I expect a tough match,” he continued.

Kabras RFC vs Heathens RFC – Kampala

Kabras RFC have also named a strong travelling squad, headlined by the return of fly-half Jone Kubu.

Emmanuel Otieno, captain Eugine Sifuna, and Ephraim Oduor lead the front row, with Hillary Odhiambo and Shem Joseph in the second row. George Nyambua, Patrick Lumumba, and Jeanson Misoga make up the back row.

Barry Young links up with Kubu in the halves, while Griffin Chao and Jackson Siketti offer an attacking threat out wide. Walter Okoth and Derrick Ashiundu combine in midfield, with Eric Cantona at fullback.

Head coach Carlos Katywa believes the cross-border format is key to growth.

“It also brings a different dynamic in terms of competitiveness. We play against each other in Kenya year in, year out, so it’s refreshing and exciting for our players to experience a different kind of rivalry… it gives them a chance to gauge where they stand,” he said.

Menengai Oilers vs Toyota Buffaloes – ASK Showground, Nakuru

At the ASK Showground, Menengai Oilers will rely on a physical pack led by Byrone Cornel, Fortune Arturo and Destreous Ifedha.

Wallace Onyango and Charles Osgood anchor the second row, while Jaadah Abdon, Amos Obae, and Collins Kabayo complete the loose trio.

Clarkson Keegan and captain Samuel Mwaura steer the backline, with Samwel Ovwamu and Brian Achacha in midfield. Beldad Ogeta and Alvin Khavoli start on the wings, with Abutwalib Wesonga at fullback.

Nondescripts RFC vs KCB Kobs – ASK Showground, Nakuru

Nondescripts RFC have named an experienced side for their clash against Kobs.

James Kubasu, Zackary Marowa, and Ken Nyakundi form the front row, with Charlton Mokua and Ryan Odua in the second row. Captain Steven Odhiambo anchors the pack alongside Geoffrey Magoro and Charles Omondi.

Ian Mumbwani and Kelvin Sheunda pair up at halfback, while Victor Rogena and Stormy Odhiambo take charge in midfield. Charles Odhiambo and Sankara Wafula start on the wings, with Tony Fidens at fullback.
