Dala 7s: Homeboyz upset Strathmore Leos as KCB, Mwamba sail through to main cup semis

For a second tournament running, Strathmore Leos are set to miss crucial points in their quest to bag the overall 2022 National Sevens Circuit after the varsity side were eliminated from main cup contention at the quarter final stage in the ongoing Dala 7s being played at the Jomo Kenyatta Stadium in Kisumu.

Coming up against Homeboyz RFC in the last 8 match on Sunday morning, the Louis Kisia coached side, who are second on the standings on 53 points, five behind current leaders KCB, were hoping to atone for the quarter final exit at Driftwood 7s in Mombasa as they sought to close the gap.

However, it was not to be for the side as Homeboyz dug in deep to condemn them to a 12-7 defeat that denied them a chance at progression.

With the loss in the fourth outing of the season, Leos now failed to make the main cup final in the last two tournaments after reaching that final stage in the opening two outings at Kabeberi, where they lost, and Christie 7s where they won the title.

For Homeboyz, the win meant they will face first seeded Mwamba in the semis after Kulabu booked their place with a 24-5 win over Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST).

In the other semi, KCB and Menengai Oilers will lock horns after both sides successfully passed their quarter final tests.

The Bankers thumped Catholic Monks 40-7 while Oilers defeated Nondies 12-10. This semis clash will be a repeat of the Driftwood 7s semis match where Oilers condemned KCB to a stunning 19-0 defeat.
