Both teams head to the match on the back of eight consecutive wins and will be looking for maximum points.

The Oilers enter the match on a high after a dominant 41-9 victory over Nondies, a result that underscored the squad’s depth.

Weru started with John Okoth, Samson Onsomu, Alvin Khavoli, and Chrispine Shitundo on the bench, while others, including Samuel Ovwamu, were absent from the matchday squad.

Despite these omissions, the Oilers maintained their winning form, a testament to the strength of their bench.

“Experience is one thing that you cannot buy, and it is invaluable. Once we can build depth, giving young players opportunities while experienced guys complement them, it speaks volumes,” he said.

“Players are pushing hard in training, lifting their hands for selection, and we as coaches have to reward effort and performance. We have good depth going into these crucial stages, but the most important thing is rhythm and making sure we can execute under pressure,” he continued.

Despite the convincing win over Nondies, Weru admitted there are aspects of the game that need work. Discipline and defense topped his list.

“One thing we do not negotiate about is our defense. We conceded nine points off the tee, which is something we are not proud of. Defensively, there are areas we were found wanting. If we play that way against KCB, it will be hard on us.

We also need to balance our territorial play and attack. Playing one man down exposed some gaps we need to address,” he urged.

The Oilers currently sit second on the Kenya Cup log with 40 points, separated from leaders Kabras RFC only by points difference. KCB, meanwhile, are hot on their heels in third place with 39 points, setting up a high-stakes encounter that could shape the playoff race.
