KRU confirmed the board appointees following the conclusion of the much-contested elections held on 29 March 2023.

Former Shujaa captain Humprey Kayange has been appointed as the Director of National Squads for the Kenya 7s team.

This is after the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) confirmed the board appointees following the conclusion of the much-contested elections held on 29 March 2023 at the RFUEA Grounds in Nairobi.

Kayange, who was part of the historic Kenya 7s team that won the country’s first and only World Rugby 7s Series title in the Singapore leg back in 2016, will be tasked with helping the currently struggling team put its house in order in a bid to try and relive the glory days.

The former team captain, who was in 2021 inducted into the World Rugby Hall of Fame for making outstanding contributions to the game of rugby throughout his careers, demonstrating rugby’s character-building values of integrity, passion, solidarity, discipline and respect on and off the field, will be relying on his vast experience in and around the game to try and restore Shujaa’s dwindling fortunes in the immediate future.

In other appointments, Moses Mukabane has been appointed as the Director of National Squads for the Simbas Team, the men’s national rugby 15s side.

John Kilonzo has been appointed the Director of women’s rugby while Harriet Okatch has been appointed Director of Commercial Services. Leslie Mwangale will be in charge of Leagues and Fixtures while Ochieng Ahaya will be the Director of development

Alexander ‘Sasha’ Mutai will be the chairman of the board after being elected the KRU chairman unopposed.

Moses Ndale, who was elected as vice chairman after flooring Ombui Ratemo, will serve as the vice chairman and head of tournaments.

Honorary Secretary Raymond Olendo will also serve as the Head of legal and Media.

Dr. Joshua Aroni, who retained his Treasurer’s seat will continue in his docket where he is expected to provide financial oversight to the Union.
