Shujaa's return to the top tier after qualifying through SVNS 2 was always going to be a difficult assignment.

Drawn against some of the world's strongest sevens nations, Kenya battled throughout the World Championship campaign before eventually finishing ninth overall and dropping back to SVNS 2 by the narrowest of margins.

John Okoth followed closely with four tries. The Menengai Oilers ace continued to establish himself as a key member of the squad, producing several influential performances as Kenya sought crucial championship points.

Five players then contributed three tries each. Kevin Wekesa, Denis Abukuse, Nygel Amaitsa, and Festus Shiasi all reached the three-try mark.

Amaitsa's contribution was particularly significant considering he missed part of the campaign after suffering an injury during the Valladolid leg in Spain. Before his setback, the fly-half had become one of Kenya's most influential players.

His absence in Bordeaux was keenly felt as Kenya struggled to maintain the same level of game management and attacking organisation evident in earlier tournaments.

David Nyagige and captain Samuel Asati each crossed over twice, while experienced campaigner Vincent Onyala, Brian Tanga and George Ooro registered one try apiece.

Kenya began their World Championship journey in Hong Kong with optimism, and finished seventh after their impressive promotion campaign through SVNS 2.

The second stop in Valladolid proved more challenging. Kevin Wambua’s charges finished eighth.

Amaitsa's injury became one of the defining moments of the tournament. Losing one of the squad's primary playmakers affected Kenya's attacking rhythm and reduced the number of options available to head coach Kevin Wambua heading into the decisive final leg.

Despite the setback, the players continued to shoulder the attacking responsibility and keep Kenya competitive.

The final chapter of the season unfolded in Bordeaux, where Kenya's survival hopes ultimately slipped away.

Shujaa faced difficult encounters against rugby powerhouses, including Fiji and South Africa. Although the team fought bravely, the tournament exposed the gap between Kenya and some of the world's best sides in areas such as game management, conditioning, and squad depth.

Unfortunately, the team's fate was eventually sealed by results elsewhere, with the United States securing enough points to leapfrog Kenya in the final standings.
