The announcement was made by MLSGP on Friday 23 August just three days after his departure from Stade Caennaise RC.
Kenyan international backrower Bethuel Anami is on the right path to rugby greatness after signing for Maisons-Laffitte, Saint-Germain-en-Laye and Poissy (MLSGP) in the French Federal 2.
The announcement was made by MLSGP on Friday 23 August just three days after his departure from Stade Caennaise RC.
“We end the week in style by announcing another recruit for the senior squad: Bethuel Muteshi Amani! A Kenyan international third-line player, Bethuel joins us from Caen Club. We’re excited to welcome our new player! GO MLSGP,” read the MLSGP statement.
Having been in France for nearly two years, Muteshi will now compete in the fifth tier of French rugby.
This move comes after a standout season with the Kenya Simbas, where he excelled in the Currie Cup and played a key role in the Rugby Africa Cup and Repechage, helping the Simbas secure second and fourth places, respectively.
The St. Peter’s Mumias alumnus is now set to contribute to MLSGP’s ambitions of promotion to Fédérale 1, the fourth tier in the French rugby league system.
Muteshi’s rugby journey
Muteshi's journey in rugby began in December 2012 when friends introduced him to the sport.
Initially drawn to football, his perspective changed at St. Peter’s Mumias when he realized rugby could provide scholarship opportunities, helping his family financially.
Despite early challenges, including balancing academics and sports, Muteshi found support from coaches like Libondo Shimenga and Eric Chebutala, which fueled his success.
During his time at St. Peter’s, Muteshi achieved remarkable feats, including winning the National School Games Rugby Sevens title and the historic East Africa School Games Sevens title.
After high school, he joined Strathmore Leos, thanks to a scouting opportunity from Mitch Ocholla, where he secured a scholarship to pursue a degree in Commerce.
At Strathmore, Muteshi continued to shine, winning the Floodlit Varsity category in 2019 and earning titles like Most Valuable Player and Top Try Scorer.
His efforts helped Strathmore achieve back-to-back Kenya Cup semi-final appearances and secure promotion to the Kenya Cup.
Now, with his move to MLSGP, Muteshi is ready to continue his rugby journey at a higher level, confident that his experiences in France will further shape his career.
