The organizers are looking at rewarding the winners of the next edition with an exclusive trip to the Maasai Mara
The inaugural Schools Rugby 7s World Cup was played over the weekend with Ngong Township winning the tournament 19-12 against Upper Hill at Impala Club.
The tournament which brought together eight teams marked the beginning of what promises to be an exciting journey for school rugby in Kenya.
According to the organizers, this year’s event was meant to test the waters ahead of next year’s tournament which they assured, would be better due to the presence of teams from different parts of the world.
This development aims to provide an opportunity for world-class schools to compete on Kenyan soil and experience Kenya’s unique rugby culture.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the inaugural competition, one of the organizers David Weru noted that they are still in the fetal stages of what will be a world-class tournament in the future.
“School rugby 7s starts in Kenya, and next year, it will grow bigger and better having East African schools. In the near future, the world will taste the touch of Africa. We will have world-class schools touching down in Kenya to experience the rugby in Africa and safari in Africa,” Weru said.
What lies ahead for the upcoming editions is even more mouth-watering.
The organizers are looking at rewarding the winners of the next edition with an exclusive trip to the Maasai Mara where they will witness the Great Wildebeest Migration.
“The trip for next year will be a safari to the Mara to watch the wildebeests migrate,” Weru concluded.
