Nondies, Impala face off in crunch Kenya Cup tie

Reading Time: 3min | Sat. 19.02.22. | 10:17

The game is scheduled for a 3PM kick off at the Ngong Racecourse on Saturday.

Record Kenya Cup champions Nondescripts RFC and 10-time winners Resolution Impala Saracens will have everything to play for on Saturday 19 February 2022 when they come up against each other at the Ngong Race Course in a season-saving contest.

With matchday 10 being the penultimate round of the regular 2021/2022 season, Nondies and Impala currently find themselves occupying the bottom two places which are the automatic relegation spots in the league as they are tied on 11 points, one adrift of the safety places.

Although Impala are 11th compared to Nondies’ 12th, the two sides are only separated by a slim point difference, -76 and -84 respectively.

With both sides in desperate need of a win, it is Nondies who get into the game-high in confidence as they defeated Mwamba 0-12 in the last outing on matchday 9 to close the gap at the bottom. Impala on the other hand were unable to do themselves any favours as they went down 17-12 against Homeboyz.

However, heading into the do or die clash, Impala head coach Oscar Osir left no secret on what his team need to do if they are to maintain their top-flight status for at least another season.

“We are basically fighting for our lives now. We are in a dog fight and if we do not get any results in these last two weeks then it will be a difficult place for the Impala community. It is going to be a winner takes it all affair and we need to show our mental strength. This is what you look at when you are in a very difficult position. So we need to give everything in the match,” Osir challenged.

On the other hand, Nondies’ team manager Stephen Were remained confident that they will beat the drop this season.

“We have made our preparations and we will play for everything against Impala. For sure we will evade relegation as we are going to give it everything,” he said.

Should other results go their way, the team that wins on the day will move out of the relegation zone and possibly escape the drop.

The match kicks off at 1500 EAT.
