Redemption in sight as Kenya 7s earn favourable draw Africa Men’s 7s second leg

The stage is set for an intense second leg of the 2024 Africa Men's 7s tournament, taking place at Labourdonnais Stadium, Port-Louis, Mauritius on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 July.
Dominant Uganda 7s, who swept the first leg with a flawless record of six wins will be the top seed in Pool A. They will face off against Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, and Tunisia, aiming to maintain their lead and secure a coveted spot in the 2025 World Challenger Series.
Pool B promises a rematch between Madagascar, the surprise runners-up from the first leg, and Kenya Morans, a team they narrowly defeated 7-5 in the opening round. Zambia and Algeria will also be vying for supremacy in this group.
South Africa, who finished third in the first leg, will be looking to redeem themselves against familiar foes Zimbabwe in Pool C. Hosts Mauritius and Nigeria will add another layer of intrigue to this competitive pool.
With everything on the line, all teams will be pushing their limits to secure crucial points and potentially rejig the standings. This second leg promises to be a thrilling display of athleticism and determination as they battle for the coveted Africa Men's 7s title and the chance to compete in the prestigious 2025 World Challenger Series.
Morans’ run in first leg
The Kenyans headed to this tournament as the defending champions. They started their campaign on a high, seeing off hosts Mauritius 40-0 before defeating Nigeria 25-0 in the second pool match.
Their two-match winning streak was ended by Madagascar who narrowly defeated them 7-5 in the final pool match.
At the quarterfinal stage, the Kenyans failed to sparkle, going down 12-7 to South Africa. This was a repeat of the 2023 Rugby Africa Men’s Cup final where Kenya edged South Africa 17-12.

The tournament's format this year is unique. It will be held over two weekends; this past weekend and July 6-7. This extended format presents both opportunities and challenges.
The overall winner will be determined by the points accumulated across the two rounds.
