The Simon Odongo-coached side picked up from where they left off against Uganda Lady Cranes, dismantling Madagascar 57-0 in a one-sided encounter played on Wednesday, 27 May.
Having opened their campaign with a commanding 43-0 victory over Uganda, the Lionesses were determined to extend their fine run and, once again, they delivered a dominant display in front of home fans.
Despite it being a public holiday, the turnout at the RFUEA Grounds was modest, with the stands barely full.
However, the atmosphere did little to slow down the rampant Kenyan side.
Before kickoff, a minute of silence was observed in honour of former Lionesses coach Felix Oloo, who passed away earlier this month after allegedly being struck by a car while attempting to cross Interstate 405 in Bothell, Washington, USA.
Kenya wasted no time asserting dominance, scoring inside the opening five minutes.
Stellah Wafula sliced through the Madagascar defence with a brilliant line break before sprinting all the way to the try line.
Sinaida Nyachio calmly added the extras for an early 7-0 lead.
The Lionesses camped in Madagascar’s half for most of the opening period, with the visitors struggling to clear their lines as their kicks repeatedly fell short and were comfortably collected by the Kenyans.
Kenya maintained the pressure through multiple phases but occasionally failed to convert chances into points.
By the half-hour mark, Madagascar had only managed to visit Kenya’s 22 twice.
The hosts looked set to score again when Marvel Oswago broke through, but a knock-on denied Kenya another try.
Moments later, though, the pressure finally paid off as Naomi Muhanji powered over from a rolling maul.
Nyachio’s conversion attempt drifted wide.
Kenya’s forwards continued to dominate, and another rolling maul saw Faith Livoi cross over for yet another try. Nyachio’s left-footed conversion attempt fell short.
An infringement by Madagascar then handed Nyachio an opportunity to stretch the lead further, and she slotted in a penalty to hand Kenya a comfortable 25-0 lead at halftime.
The Lionesses returned for the second half, breathing fire.
Freshia Oduor crossed over early after Kenya launched another attack, although the conversion attempt missed the target.
Moments later, Nyachio produced a clever pass after drawing in defenders, setting up Oduor for her second try of the afternoon.
The conversion once again went astray.
Kenya’s attacking wave showed no signs of slowing down as another try followed shortly after, though the conversion attempt was missed again.
Maureen Muritu then joined the scoring party, dotting down before successfully converting her own try to push the score to 47-0.
Wafula later completed her brace as Kenya crossed the 50-point mark, although Muritu could not add the extras this time around.
Atieno Awuor had the final say for the Lionesses, finishing off another well-worked move after the forwards had done the hard work upfront.
Nyachio’s conversion attempt rattled the post as Kenya wrapped up a commanding 57-0 victory.
Wafula’s impressive performance earned her the Player of the Match award.
The Lionesses will now turn their attention to a tougher assignment against defending champions South Africa on Sunday, 31 May, again at the RFUEA Grounds.
