The duo help Kenya to a third place finish in Edmonton, Canada

For a second consecutive week, Kenya 7's Rugby duo of Alvin ‘Buffa’ Otieno and Jeff Oluoch fended off challenge from a 14-man star studded list to make it to the Edmonton Sevens Dream Team.

Back in the first outing of the two legged HSBC 2021 Seven Series Circuit held in Vancouver, Canada, Buffa and Oluoch were voted in by fans to the Vancouver Dream Team after propelling Kenya to a second place finish in the tournament after losing 5-38 to South Africa.

Despite being knocked out of the semis in Edmonton by South Africa once again, Buffa landed two out of the five tries that helped Kenya to a 14-33 victory over hosts Canada to seal a bronze place finish in the series ending outing on Canadian soil.

With the impressive performances, the dancing partners sealed their place alongside a seven member team dominated by Edmonton champions and overall Series winners South Africa who had the four players in the team.

Selvyn Davids, captain Siviwe Soyizwapi, Muller Du Plessis and JC Pretorius were the South African quartet as Germany’s John Dawe completed the team. With a second place finish in Vancouver and a third place finish in Edmonton, Shujaa raked up 34 points to finish off the overall 2021 Series in third place on the log behind South Africa and Great Britain.

After the two legs held in Canada, focus now shifts to the 2022 Series. The 2022 Series will kick off in Dubai on 26-27 November, 2021 with the full schedule to be announced soon. The Series will be followed by Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England on 29-31 July 2022 and Rugby World Cup Sevens in Cape Town, South Africa on 9-11 September.
