Kenya will meet South Africa in the final at 1718 EAT
Shujaa picked up from where they left off at the quarter final stage to hammer Zimbabwe Cheetahs 35-10 in the first semifinal match of the Africa Men’s 7s that was played in Harare, Zimbabwe.
The determined Kenya 7s were also out to avenge for their younger brothers Chipu who fell to Zimbabwe Sables during the Barthes Cup and the World Rugby U20 trophy.
Kevin Wambua’s charges were coming from a 26-0 win over Burkina Faso at the quarter final stage.
They started well from kickoff, but later lost possession after a knock on. They were playing at their danger zone but mounted a rock-solid defense against their opponents.
The Cheetahs then succumbed to pressure, and in no time it was speedster Patrick Odongo sending the crowd wild with Shujaa’s opening try. Tony Omondi was sure with the conversion.

The try boosted Kenyans’ morale and minutes later, it was Strathmore Leos’ Nygel Amaitsa who went over with another try that was converted by Omondi.
The Cheetahs then responded with an unconverted try to see scores at 14-5.
Kenyans played on, and Tony Omondi set up John Okoth for another five-pointer that blew the scores to 21-5 before the end of the opening half.
The half time talk seemed to have had an impact on the Cheetahs who came in stronger, piling pressure on the Kenyans. Minutes into the Kenyan danger zone and the hosts were out with five more points.
Kenyans then showcased well-structured play to score another try through Okoth. Omondi added the extras.
In the dying minutes of the game, George Ooro went dancing through the gigantic Cheetah’s defense to add Kenya five more points. Omondi’s magical boots converted it before full time. Scores 35-10.
Meanwhile, Uganda went down 26-14 after a spirited fight against South Africa in the second semifinal.
The Africa Men’s 7s tournament will serve as the 2024 Paris Olympic qualifiers.
