Oilers face MMUST on Saturday at the Nakuru Athletic Club.
Red-hot Menengai Oilers welcome Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) at the Nakuru Athletic Club with head coach Gibson Weru looking to iron out their discipline issues.
Oilers have registered a flying start to the season after emphatically winning their opening three games and currently sit at the summit of the log after collecting bonus point victories in every game.
Weru admitted that the 24-10 win over Kenya Harlequin was a morale booster but noted that he will need to work on their discipline issues that saw them collect four yellow cards in the encounter.
“The win against Quins gave us a shot in the arm but there are areas of concern like discipline, we got four yellow cards in one game which is not ideal if you want to be a top side.
I’m however happy that we are playing it in Nakuru, if it was in their home ground it would have been even tougher,” said Weru.
Oilers had a memorable campaign last season after finishing runners-up in the Kenya Cup and also won their maiden major title after lifting the National Sevens Circuit.
Weru was however aware of the potential banana skin clash against a physical MMUST side but noted that he had answers for whatever the Varsity side would throw at them.
“MMUST is a very unpredictable side, very physical but we can match their physicality and play an expansive game. We will try and do a rope-a-dope to evade contact and know when to deliver the killer punch.
They are very worthy opponents and they are a team that have been growing over the years and it will be an exciting fixture,” added Weru.
