Oilers have won their opening four games of the season.
After winning all their four opening games of the season, Menengai Oilers have posted a dream start to the season with head coach Gibson Weru revealing that this has been down to their rigorous pre-season.
Oilers have picked up where they left from last season after finishing runners-up as they are enjoying a 100% start having picked up wins against Mean Machine, Kenya Harlequin, MMUST, and Homeboyz.
The former Nakuru RFC head coach credited their preparations to the season to be the reason for their blistering start to the season but noted that there is room for improvement.
“Its preparations, we prepared extremely well, we had a solid pre-season, we put in three months of physical hard work. The boys are fit, they are agile, and much better.
We also put in a lot of effort in terms of the technical aspect of the game. I’m not happy with the way we are playing for now but I’m sure we will get better as time goes by,” said Weru.
The Nakuru-based side have also picked up three victories on the road having played Homeboyz, Kenya Harlequin and MMUST away from their home ground.
Weru added they have achieved their target of winning their opening four games of the season and revealed some of the areas that need tightening.
“Our initial goal was to win the first four games this year and we have been able to achieve that, not in the way we wanted to win all four of them but each and everyone has given us an opportunity to look at how we play and see where we need to adjust.
In the game against Homeboyz, the boys played well in certain areas and we struggled in others but it is good feedback for me as a coach, now I can know the areas I need to work on especially in defense because we concede a lot of points and it is good to end the year on a high,” added Weru.
