Chebet’s 2024 season has been nothing short of spectacular. She retained her world cross-country title earlier in the year and made history at the Prefontaine Classic by becoming the first woman to run a sub-29-minute 10,000m on the track, achieving a time of 28:54.14.
Her crowning achievements came during the Paris Olympics.
Chebet shocked the athletics world by defeating her compatriot Faith Kipyegon to clinch gold in the 5,000-meter event.
Just days later, she secured another victory in the 10,000 m, completing a remarkable Olympic double.
As her record-breaking season concludes, Chebet is already preparing for new goals.
She is focused on the upcoming World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, set to take place from September 13-21, 2025.
Determined to add to her legacy, she aims to win gold in both the 5,000m and 10,000m events.
“Next year, my priority is to secure gold medals in the 5,000m and 10,000m at the World Championships in Tokyo,” Chebet stated with confidence.
Reflecting on the race, “Everything fell into place perfectly,” Chebet said, speaking to World Athletics after the race.
“Breaking 14 minutes was within my reach, and I achieved it. Two races in Barcelona and two world records—what more could I ask for?”
Chebet’s drive and ability to break barriers have made her a standout figure in athletics.
As she prepares for Tokyo, the sports world is eager to witness the next chapter of her incredible journey and the new milestones she is bound to achieve in 2025.
