
Beatrice Chebet scales Police ranks following Paris exploits

3000m steeplechase bronze medalist Abraham Kibiwott was also promoted
Beatrice Chebet has been rewarded with promotion by the National Police Service (NPS) following her remarkable performance in the concluded Paris Olympics.
Chebet delivered two out of the four gold medals Kenya won following victories in the 5000m and 10000m races in what was her maiden appearance in the Games.
Her exploits in the French capital not only earned her the two gold medals but also guaranteed her Ksh19 million, in prize money, jointly from the World Athletics and the Kenyan government.
Chebet who, alongside a host of athletes, was treated to a heroic welcome on Tuesday night has been promoted to the rank of Corporal by her employer.
She was promoted by the acting Inspector General of the Police Gilbert Masengeli in the full glare of other athletes drawn from the unit, who represented the country in Paris.
"Ag. Inspector General of Police, Mr. Gilbert Masengeli on August 14, 2024 received NPS athletes who represented Kenya in the just concluded Olympic Games Paris 2024, at Jogoo House "A". The acting IG expressed gratitude to the athletes for their dedication and discipline," read a statement posted on the National Police Service's X account.
The statement confirmed that Chebet had secured the promotion alongside 3000m Steeplechase bronze medalist Abraham Kibiwott.
" The Ag. IG Mr. Masengeli henceforth promoted Beatrice Chebet and Abraham Kibiwot to the rank of Corporal on Merit. Corporal Chebet, a record holder in 10,000m, won two Gold M medals after impressive outings in 5000m and 10,000m races," added the statement.
800m bronze medalist Mary Moraa, 3000m Steeplechase record holder Beatrice Chepkoech, Rio Games javelin silver medalist Julius Yego are some of the athletes who were in attendance.
