Excitement over Femke Bol vs Keely Hodgkinson 600m race

Reading Time: 2min | Thu. 19.09.24. | 21:37

Hodgkinson holds the women's 600m World Indoor record while Bol is the women's world record holder over 500m

World 400m champion Femke Bol appears to have ruffled the right feathers a week ago, as World Athletics on Wednesday posted a picture of her and 800m Olympic champion Keely Hodgkinson with the words: “600m match-up.”

The Thursday post, which possibly indicates some level of interest from the sport governing body, comes after Bol challenged Hodgkinson to a unique and stand-alone 600m race.

Talking to the media ahead of the season-ending Brussels Diamond League, the 24-year-old said: “I would actually love to run against Keely Hodgkinson over 600m. We’re good friends, but it’s a bit far, so I have to think it through really well.”

And in an Instagram post by Diamond League, Hodgkinson, 22, seemed to also be interested in the idea, as she replied under it with the words: “No objection.”

With the 2024 track season over, and Hodgkinson shutting it down for the rest of the year, speculation is high as to when the race could be held.

World Athletics provided an exciting caption with eye emojis asking: “Who's winning this?”

Should the race between the two happen, it would mirror the unique 100m race between Swedish pole vaulter Armand Duplantis and Norwegian 400m hurdler Karsten Warholm on Wednesday 4 September.

The exhibition race, which saw Duplantis win with 10.37 seconds, happened a day before the Diamond League meeting in Zurich, attracting lots of audience and sponsors including Weltklasse Zurich, Puma and Red Bull.

The duel was also streamed free on World Athletics Inside Track. All that remains now is the time and date surely.
