Kenya’s javelin trailblazer Julius Yego is on a mission to cement a lasting legacy of the sport and leave a formidable heir to his throne.
Yego recently partnered with USA-based company Throwing Zone to develop the next generation of javelin champions in Kenya.
The 2015 world javelin champion, known as the “YouTube Man” for his self-taught rise in the sport, has embarked on a new project, Kenya Golden Arm, designed to introduce top-tier throwing equipment to young athletes in Kenyan schools.
Through the Kenya Golden Arm initiative, Yego and Throwing Zone will supply specialized mini javelins and turbojavs to schools across the country.
This partnership aims to spark an early interest in javelin among youth, equipping budding athletes with the tools needed to learn the sport from a young age.
For Yego, this collaboration is not just about nurturing talent, but also ensuring that Kenya remains competitive in global javelin events.
Throwing Zone highlighted their excitement for the project on their social media handles, sharing a video of Yego’s son testing one of their turbojavs. A turbojav is a lightweight training javelin that’s safe and ideal for young learners.
In their post, the company expressed optimism for the program, stating: “Big plans for Kenya. We are partnering with Julius and are going to launch Kenya Golden Arm with the Julius Yego Foundation. The goal is to bring our mini javelins to schools and find the next Kenyan javelin star.”
To kickstart Kenya Golden Arm, the project is launching a crowdfunding initiative, inviting donors and sponsors to support their mission.
The funds raised will go directly toward purchasing equipment and expanding access to javelin training in schools.
Both Yego and Throwing Zone believe that with the right resources and guidance, Kenya can uncover another world-class talent to carry on Yego’s legacy.
