It was yet another world lead for the world bronze medalist who is looking to win the global medal later in the year

"In Faith Cherotich we trust!"

By the time this year's World Athletics Championship rolls around, this sounds like a mantra Kenyans will have as the youngster continues to cement her 'favourite' tag, this time in Paris.

Taking on a field that had former Olympic champion, Ugandan Peruth Chemutai, Ethiopia's Sembo Almayew and home runner Alice Finot, among others, Cherotich lowered her world leading time by five seconds, storming to a 8:53.37 to win the women's 3000m steeplechase.

The time is not only the quickest time this year but also her personal best, additionally moving her to sixth in the all-time list.

The field got off to a quick start, covering the opening kilometer almost on the three minute mark, with Cherotich and Chemutai calling the shots behind the pacers.

Five minutes in the duo had split the field into two with Ethiopian Almayew going with them as did home runner Finot but they were no match as they were soon dropped off.

With four laps to go it was a battle between the East Africans who were way ahead of the green lights with the Kenyan looking relaxed as she dictated pace but could not shake the Ugandan off as the two took the bell side by side.

The Kenyan was overtaken just before the final water jump but she made ground with perfect landing in the water to come on Chemutai's shoulder before opening the turbos on the home straight to leave her competitor behind.

Tokyo Olympic Champion Chemutai settled for second in 8:54.41 while Almayew placed a distant third in 9:01.02.
