The crucial clash lived up to expectations, producing drama, controversy and late tension as the Embu-based side dug deep to secure a crucial victory that propelled them to the top of the standings on 68 points, level with Migori Youth, who are set to play on Sunday.

The match burst into life moments after the restart when Kibera Black Stars thought they had taken the lead through captain Donald Omwanda.

However, celebrations were cut short after the centre referee controversially ruled out the goal, sparking heated protests from the hosts.

The incident led to a lengthy stoppage as tempers flared among players and officials before calm was restored and the match resumed.

After weathering the storm, 3K FC gradually settled back into the contest and eventually broke the deadlock in the 71st minute through Newton “Westo” Njue, who finished off a well-worked move to silence the home crowd.

With momentum firmly on their side, the visitors struck six minutes from full-time.

Westo completed his brace after being brilliantly played through on goal by Mark Kithome before calmly slotting home to hand 3K a comfortable cushion.

Kibera Black Stars, however, refused to go down without a fight and pulled one back in the closing stages through Jephter Bundi. Despite the late pressure, 3K held firm to seal an important victory in their push for promotion to the top flight.

MOFA 2-1 Gucha Stars

Elsewhere at Kenyatta Stadium in Mamboleo, Michael Olunga Football Academy (MOFA) made an emphatic start to life under interim coach Fobian Hosea after defeating Gucha Stars 2-1.

The Homa Bay-based outfit returned to winning ways, thanks to goals from George Ogutu and Laban Otieno, who scored in either half, ending a disappointing two-match winless streak.

The victory lifted the Michael Olunga-backed side to 60 points, further strengthening their promotion ambitions as they moved within five points of Mombasa United.

For Gucha Stars, the defeat further deepened their struggles, stretching their winless run to nine matches.

The result also denied them a vital opportunity to create breathing space above the relegation zone as they remained on 35 points.

Naivas FC 3-0 Darajani Gogo

Meanwhile, at Dandora Stadium, Naivas FC produced a dominant display to thrash Darajani Gogo 3-0 in the final match of the day.

The comprehensive victory boosted Naivas’ hopes of securing a top-five finish as the retailers climbed to 51 points.

On the other hand, Darajani Gogo’s survival hopes suffered another major setback, with their fight against relegation increasingly slipping away.
