Incidences of hooliganism marred what was an otherwise good derby in terms of attendance and now Sports Kenya has cracked the whip

Following the Mashemeji Derby clash on Sunday 21 April, Sports Kenya, the parastatal responsible for national stadia, has sent a strong letter to Kenya's top football clubs, AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia. The letter details the extensive damages caused during the intense incident, placing responsibility on the clubs for the disruptive actions of their supporters.

According to the correspondence, the AFC Leopards have received a substantial bill totaling Ksh 505,540 for the damage caused by their fans. Sports Kenya has also suspended AFC Leopards from using any facilities until they pay off the significant debt.

In a similar vein, Gor Mahia has received an invoice of Ksh 126,500 to cover the damages caused by their fans during the derby match.

The Mashemeji Derby, a highly anticipated match known for its intense rivalry and passionate atmosphere, unfortunately turned chaotic due to acts of vandalism and disorder that tarnished the event.
