Akumu misses second consecutive game as Chiefs are held

For a second consecutive game, Harambee Stars international Anthony Akumu failed to take any part in a Kaizer Chiefs game.

As the Soweto giants battled to a 1-1 draw against last season's league runners up Amazulu, the Kenyan international remained an unused substitute as he watched the whole game from the sidelines.

In his absence, Chief's struggles continued as they went on a fourth consecutive match without managing a win. Were it not for Keagan Dolly's last minute heroics, a third defeat in six games would have been barrelling down Chief's opening slow start to the season.

After going into the break with the deadlock intact, Amigo Memela gave Amazulu the lead after just three minutes of second half's resumption.

With a defeat very much on the cards with time well spent, Chiefs were handed a precious chance to steal a point when Thapelo Xoki was adjudged to have handballed in the box from a Lebogang Manyama delivery into the area in the very last minute of stoppage time.

Dolly stepped up and made no mistake from the spot as he drilled the ball powerfully into the bottom right-hand corner to ensure Chiefs salvaged a point.

In total, Akumu has only played 55 minutes this season for Chiefs with the Amakhosi having now played six league games.

With the draw, Chiefs remained in the bottom half of the table as they stayed in 12th position on the table on six points.
