The Dutch striker opened up about the quarter-final game after which the Argentine captain called him 'an idiot'

What are you looking at? Fool!'. This is probable the single most interesting quote of the whole World Cup. Especially after it came from non-other than Lionel Messi. The Argentinian captain, unlike his fellow teammates has never insulted his opponents and made any gestures to mock them, until the Netherlands game. After a penalty shootout in the quarter finals, the Argentinians, led by Messi, mocked their opponents, justifying themselves by the comments made by Dutch coach Louis Van Gaal prior to the game, which they thought was disrespectful.

And striker Wout Weghorst made the game much more interested with two late goals but after the game, Messi saw the striker in the tunnel during the post-match interview and showed a nervous reaction too, calling him an ‘idiot’.

"I wanted to pay my respects to him after the game, but he wasn't open to it. Well, I take it as a nice compliment that he now knows my name. Then I did something right” said Weghorst to "De Telegraaf".

Burnley striker, currently on loan to Besiktas in Turkey, explained that the always plays the same and doesn’t divide his opponents but their quality.

For me, everyone on the field is the same. It doesn't matter whether I'm playing against Messi or against Burak. I will always give everything. I did the same thing in the quarter-finals of the World Cup. I fought Messi and there were a few moments between us. I think he didn't appreciate that and was a bit surprised by it. But I have a lot of respect for him. He's the best or one of the best players of all time" said the Besiktas striker.
