Gallagher and Alvarez scored their debut goals in Simeone's crew's convincing triumph over the club from the east of Spain - 3-0
Diego Simeone has long insisted on signing Conor Gallagher and Julian Alvarez, and last night's clash with Valencia showed why, as the duo started paying off for Atletico Madrid. Even though the match against the disappointing Valencia is not a proper indicator, Los Colchoneros are looking better and better, and the newcomers are fitting in very well.
The former Chelsea midfielder broke the deadlock six minutes before the break after Rodrigo De Paul's assist, although Atletico were way more dominant up until that point as well. Once Antoine Griezmann doubled the lead in the 54th minute using Samuel Lino's timely pass, it was clear that the three points would stay at Metropolitano Stadium.

Julian Alvarez, an addition from Manchester City, completed the fantastic night for the newcomers with the stoppage-time goal - his first in the red and white jersey. What can specifically delight Cholo Simeone is that his side managed to keep a clean sheet in the fourth consecutive match. So far, Atletico have conceded only two goals - both against Villareal in the opening La Liga game - and have the best defence in the league, alongside Real Madrid.
As for Valencia, the Spanish giants are still struggling, already aware that the relegation battle will be fierce. Currently, they sit at the bottom of the table with only one point and ten goals conceded in five matches. In the next round, Ruben Baraja's squad travel to Girona, whereas Atletico face Rayo Vallecano in Vallecas. In the meantime, Simeone's crew will begin their Champions League campaign against RB Leipzig at home on Thursday.
