There is an option for additional third season, if the German coach wants to trigger it
When both sides are satisfied, it is only a matter of finding the right moment to make everything official. FC Barcelona and Hansi Flick appear to be a perfect match, even though the appointment of the German coach was initially met with some skepticism. The result has been two consecutive La Liga titles, one Copa del Rey trophy, a semifinal appearance in the UEFA Champions League, and the emergence of numerous talented youngsters from La Masia.
Flick’s future had already been secured for some time. It was widely known that he would extend his contract, and today Barcelona officially confirmed it on the club’s website. The partnership between the German coach and the Catalan giants will continue for another two years, with an option for an additional 12-month extension available to the former FC Bayern Munich manager. One major advantage for Flick is that he enjoys the full trust of Joan Laporta. The Barcelona president reportedly sees him not only as a business associate, but also as a friend. Laporta is said to be so impressed with Flick’s qualities that he would like to keep him at the club until 2031, when his own presidential term ends.
However, Flick is known for preferring shorter-term contracts, and he managed to negotiate exactly that. He has already set new objectives for himself — above all, winning the Champions League trophy, something Barcelona have continued to fall short of in recent years. Last season they were eliminated in the semifinals by FC Internazionale Milano, while this year they were knocked out in the quarterfinals by Atletico de Madrid. Plans for next season are already taking shape. Barcelona will remain committed to promoting young talent, but Flick is also demanding at least two new signings in their prime years in order to create a more balanced and competitive squad capable of achieving the main objective — bringing the famous Champions League trophy back to Camp Nou. The last time that happened was in 2015, when Barcelona defeated Juventus FC in the final.
