Barca’s exit list contains five players

The Catalans have some tough decisions to make in June

Barcelona are on the verge of another La Liga title, second in a row. Last season, they finished ahead of Real Madrid with four points more, while this season the difference can be even bigger, considering the fact that there are six more games to be played in La Liga (seven for Barca as they face Celta tonight), including El Clasico. But, while Hansi Flick is concentrating on the job on the field, sporting director Deco is doing a lot of off the field work and is already preparing for the next season. Flick confirmed that he is in day to day communication with the Portuguese executive over the squad change and the Spanish Marca found out that there are five players on Barcelona’s transfer list for June.

The Catalans must ease their financial burden by trimming the wage bill as well as selling players and it seems that they will do both when the season ends. According to Marca, the first on the list is Marcus Rashford. The current Manchester United forward is the easiest option as he is on a loan. The fact is that Flick always wanted to keep him (he contributed 12 goals and 13 assists), but even the low fee of only 26 million pounds is too much for Barca. They tried to negotiate but the Red Devils won’t budge. On the other hand, if Rashford comes back, he will be one of the highest earners (315.000 pounds per week) and United are desperate to cut the wage bill, and have already working on getting rid of the high earners Casemiro and Jadon Sancho.

The next two players are a bit of a surprise – Robert Lewandowski and Frenkie De Jong. Lewa is Barca’s first striker, but he is not only 37 years old, but his contract is up in June and Juventus and Milan already want to pay him top dollars, while Barca could offer only a one-year deal with less money he is receiving now, which suggests that the end is near. On the other hand, De Jong is a good player with no signs of declining, but his wage bill is huge – 348.000 euros per week, and that could really help the Catalans in their quest for more financial relieve.

Andreas Christensen and Marc Casado are the last on the list, but their names are not so surprising as De Jong’s. The former Chelsea defender has a long injury record while at Camp Nou and he barely featured even when healthy. His contract is up just like Lewandowski’s but unlike the Pole, they haven’t even offered new contract to the Dane defender. Casado is a good backup player, he is young and has two more years on his current deal, but is just a victim of the position. Ahead of him are Pedri, Gavi and Eric Garcia, so he will be sold for money and financial gain. After all, Barcelona need to find a proper striker who will replace Lewa, and they all cost a lot.
