Bastoni dream fading? Barcelona face financial reality over €80m defender

Perfect fit on the pitch, but La Liga limits could push Inter star out of reach

Barcelona may have found their ideal defensive signing in Alessandro Bastoni - but turning that idea into reality looks increasingly complicated.

The Inter Milan centre-back is seen as a perfect tactical fit: left-footed, elegant in possession and capable of driving the team forward. At 26, entering his prime, and valued at around €80 million, he represents exactly the profile Barcelona want to build around.

There is even a belief that the player would be open to the move, which Mozzart Sport Kenya reported recently.

And yet, the biggest opponent isn't Inter - it's the balance sheet.

Despite La Liga raising Barcelona's salary cap to €433m, the club's wage bill still sits significantly higher, at around €510m. That gap leaves little room for major investments without first generating funds or cutting costs.

And Bastoni isn't the only priority. The Blaugrana are also pushing to secure Marcus Rashford on a permanent deal, while continuing their search for a new No 9. In that context, an €80m defender, even one as suitable as Bastoni, risks becoming a luxury they simply cannot afford.

Unlike in previous years, Inter Milan are under no financial pressure to sell. Backed by more stable ownership, the Italian club can afford to keep hold of one of their key leaders, alongside Lautaro Martinez and Nicolo Barella, which only strengthens their negotiating position.

For Barcelona, the situation is clear: the player fits, the interest is there, but unless the finances shift significantly, Bastoni may remain out of reach this July.
