After Kane, Díaz and Olise, Kompany is interested in his former teammate

Bayern has clearly taken a liking to signing players from the Premier League—and why wouldn’t they, given that the arrivals of Harry Kane, Luis Díaz, and Michael Olise have proven to be perfect moves. The only one who hasn’t left a good impression is Nicolas Jackson, who was brought in as a forced solution from Chelsea on loan. After the positive experience with the aforementioned trio, the Bavarians have decided to turn their sights once again to the world’s strongest league, this time targeting—John Stones. According to the Daily Mail, the club officials at Allianz Arena are very keen on bringing in the sturdy center-back as an additional option in the backline.

What makes this potentially easier, unlike with Kane, Díaz, and Olise, is that Bayern wouldn’t have to pay any transfer fee for Stones, as it’s already known that Manchester City will not offer him a new contract. If the transfer goes through, Bayern would get an experienced, proven center-back who has won trophies, without having to spend a cent on a transfer fee. The only potential issue could be the English international’s injury record. In the last two seasons, he has played only 19 Premier League matches and has struggled with hamstring, foot, groin, and various other problems. Still, a player of his quality and rich career rarely becomes available. After all, this is a man who joined City from Everton in 2016 in a 47.5 million euros transfer, making him one of the most expensive defenders ever.

Of course, Bayern is not the only club interested in Stones. He has been linked with a return to Everton, and there’s speculation that Barcelona and Coventry are also monitoring him. However, Bayern’s ace up their sleeve is the fact that Vincent Kompany and Stones played together at City, and their good relationship has endured since, which is far from negligible in the overall picture. In addition to the Englishman, Bayern had previously shown concrete interest in Anthony Gordon. The Bavarians have seriously gone after the Newcastle winger, suggesting that the trend of Premier League players moving to Bavaria still has no end in sight.
