Looking to preserve their perfect home record in February, Brest welcome Marseille to Stade Francis-Le Blé on Friday night in Ligue 1.

With both sides under pressure for different reasons, this encounter promises intensity and, potentially, goals.

Brest come into this fixture on a three-game unbeaten league run, including a 1-1 draw away to Lille last weekend.

However, they have shown vulnerability when leading, already dropping points twice this calendar year after being ahead in the second half.

Domestically, Eric Roy’s men have found rhythm at home, collecting 18 of their 27 points at Stade Francis-Le Blé. They defeated Lorient 2-0 earlier this month and have won their last four home league matches when scoring at least twice, remaining unbeaten in such scenarios all season.

Across their last six Ligue 1 matches, Brest have posted two wins, two draws and two defeats, averaging 1.33 goals scored and 1.17 conceded per game.

Half of those fixtures saw both teams score, while 67% finished under 2.5 goals. Still, their recent meetings with top-four opposition have been mixed; they held Lille and drew with Nice, but fell 2-1 to Lyon.

Team news could slightly disrupt Brest’s balance. Mama Baldé and Soumaila Coulibaly are sidelined, Bradley Locko is doubtful, but Kamory Doumbia returns from suspension.

Ludovic Ajorque remains key creatively with seven assists, while Romain Del Castillo leads their scoring charts with seven league goals.

Remy Labeau also netted his fourth of the season last time out, adding depth to their attacking options.

Marseille, meanwhile, are navigating turbulence. Following the departure of Roberto De Zerbi, Jacques Abardonado oversaw a 2-2 draw against Strasbourg before Habib Beye’s appointment this week.

They have now dropped points in three straight league matches and are winless in their last two away games, conceding seven goals in that span - as many as they had allowed in their previous seven away league fixtures combined.

Their recent numbers point strongly towards open games. Marseille’s last 10 matches in all competitions have produced over 2.5 goals, with their previous six fixtures averaging a remarkable 3.83 total goals per match.

They score 1.67 goals per game in that run but concede 2.17, highlighting defensive fragility. Mason Greenwood has been outstanding, leading Ligue 1 with 14 goals and adding five assists, while Amine Gouiri and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang offer further attacking thrust.

Defensively, Leonardo Balerdi is a doubt due to an ear problem, though goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli returned last weekend. Marseille’s away inconsistency is notable, but historically, this fixture has favoured them.

Head-to-head statistics strongly lean toward Marseille. They have won four of the last five league meetings, including a 3-0 victory in November and a 5-1 triumph at this venue in 2024.

Across the last five clashes at Brest, 19 goals have been scored, averaging 3.8 per match. Brest have conceded at least three goals in each of their last three encounters with Marseille.

Key Betting Pointers

- Marseille conceded 12 goals in their last four away matches

- Marseille’s last 10 games in all competitions went over 2.5 goals

- 19 goals were scored in the last five meetings at Brest

- Marseille netted 2+ goals in each of the last three H2Hs

While Brest’s home resilience is encouraging, Marseille’s attacking firepower and the historical goal trends between these sides suggest an open contest. Both teams have defensive inconsistencies, and Marseille’s matches consistently deliver goals.
