Chelsea come back late to ruin Villa's Champions League hopes

Chelsea were on the verge of the total comeback against Aston Villa, but should be satisfied with a 2-2 draw at Villa Park on Saturday night.

Axel Disasi had a stoppage-time winner disallowed, so Mauricio Pochettino's side had to settle with a point after being two goals down in the second half.

Villa, whose top-four hopes are now not in their hands, had taken an early lead after John McGinn's effort deflected off Marc Cucurella and into the bottom corner.

Morgan Rogers doubled the lead, before Noni Madueke ressurected the Blues. He pegged one back with half an hour still on the clock, and Connor Gallagher hit a belter to level the score near the end.

Cole Palmer even had a perfect one-on-one chance early in the stoppage time, but it's Disasi's goal that could have made all the difference. He thought he had sealed victory after he nodded home Benoit Badiashile's cross but the video assistant referee (VAR) recommended an on-field review and referee Craig Pawson decided the latter had barged a Villa defender before the cross.
