... and one thing only - European football next season

Olympique Marseille announced an agreement in principle with former Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi, and only a few tiny formalities remain before the Italian is officially announced as the new OM boss.

The club said on Monday:

"Olympique de Marseille announces that it has reached an agreement in principle with Roberto De Zerbi," OM confirmed via a press release published on its website. "The club is currently working with all stakeholders to formalize the arrival of the Italian coach, as well as that of his staff, on the OM bench and prepare for his arrival in Marseille in the coming days."

According to RMC Sport, De Zerbi will sign a three-year contract with OM and his former team, Brighton, will receive 6,000,000 euros in compensation.

After a disappointing 2023-2024 campaign, despite reaching the UEFA Europa League semi-final, OM won't play European football in the next season (they finished eighth in Ligue 1).

Therefore, De Zerbi will have the mission of helping the Marseille club return to the continental scene as soon as possible, and his destiny on the south coast of France depends on that challenge.

After notable spells at Sassuolo and Shakhtar Donetsk, Roberto De Zerbi sat in the Brighton's dugout since September 2022. Under his leadership, the Seagulls had two successful Premier League campaigns.
